The Chinese proverb "dogs are nosy when catching mice" fully shows us how much modern domestic dogs love mice. However, although dogs love to catch mice, they do not eat them. Why is this?

The reason why dogs catch rats but don’t eat them is because most dogs find it fun to catch rats. Dogs usually eat dog food and cooked meat, and rats are not palatable when eaten raw. Terrier dogs are very good at catching mice. Rat terriers, Cairn terriers, Yorkshire terriers, Norfolk terriers, Jack Russell terriers, etc. are all good at catching mice. The name "terrier" among terrier dogs originates from the Latin word "Terra" which means "digging", which shows that this dog is very good at digging holes and hunting small animals such as mice that live underground.

The rat terrier is a dog breed from the United Kingdom, and its ability to catch rats is top-notch. Rat Terriers are docile, easy to train, extremely active and agile, and can hunt rats, snakes, and hunt squirrels, raccoons, deer, and other animals. However, in order for them to successfully capture prey, they must first invest a lot of effort in training them. But owners cannot keep dogs just to catch mice. After all, not all dogs are interested in mice.
