In the 8th round of the Premier League, West Ham lost 0-2 at home to Brentford. After the game, in a Sky Sports program, former Liverpool star Carragher fiercely criticized West Ham's poor management and pointed out that the fans' dissatisfaction was a true reflection of the club's plight.
Under new coach Nuno, West Ham are still looking for their first win, but they performed very poorly against Brentford. Fan dissatisfaction ran high and many London Bowl spectators left the stadium before the game was over.
Carragher said: "It's too bad and they have been for a long time. It feels like a long time has passed since Moyes won the UEFA Champions League."
"A lot of times when fans turn against a club and management, it's often a last resort. The fans of these clubs rarely go wrong, they know The situation within the club, the problem is not the coach."
Carragher continued: "West Ham's management is completely different from other clubs, especially those who just defeated them in the London Bowl." He mentioned that Brentford has still been able to perform well despite the departure of many important players and head coach Frank before the season.
"The way West Ham handle transfers is almost like a throwback to the past. They've been at the top of the club for many years and they've certainly won trophies and I understand that. But it's not up to the standards of modern football and that's why fans are unhappy."
"Fans are seeing clubs that are nowhere near as big as West Ham - no disrespect to Brentford Germany and Brighton, but both teams are modern, forward-thinking clubs - West Ham is a bigger club, but the way they are managed now makes it impossible for them to compete with these clubs on the pitch."
Carragher also pointed out that he believed West Ham's athleticism was well below Premier League standards, questioning that they may be one of the slowest teams in the Premier League.
Carragher added: "I can't see a more unathletic team in the last 12 months. This is one of the slowest teams I've ever seen in the Premier League. Look at that first goal, it feels like 40, 50 years ago, everyone on the other side has plenty of time and space."
