The Premier League announced its schedule today. The Telegraph reported that after the calls for reducing the burden on top players grew, the Premier League's new season has cancelled the traditional Boxing Day schedule.
Although the 2025-26 season schedule did not include any Boxing Day matches when it was announced, this situation is expected to change after the broadcaster makes his choice during the holiday period. However, teams will not need to play two games in 48 hours as they used to, meaning that the traditional intensive bodding day schedule has become history.
Official statement stated: "To fulfill our commitment to extending rest time during Christmas and New Year, no club will be required to be less than 48 hours apart between 18 rounds (December 27) and 19 rounds (December 30). Round 18 can be adjusted to Boxing Day for live selection. Each team will have home games on December 27 or January 3, while reducing travel on December 27 and 30."
