The Athletic famous reporter David Ornstein reported that West Ham has reached an agreement on the transfer of Southampton midfielder Mattus Fernandez.
The total transfer fee is £38 million, including £3 million additional terms and 15% second transfer share. The 21-year-old Portuguese youth international will be West Ham's sixth signing this summer, and the London Club is also negotiating Monaco midfielder Magasa.
Mattus Fernandez joined Southampton from Portugal Sports in the summer of 2024, making 46 appearances for the South Coast team, which was relegated last season, scoring 4 goals and contributing 7 assists. He has played for Portugal's youth teams at all levels (to the U21 level) 36 times and has not yet made his debut in the adult national team.
West Ham suffered a three-game losing streak at the start of the 2025-26 season (two Premier League games + League Cup loss to Wolves), and will play away against Nottingham Forest this weekend.
