"Star Gate" deploys 2 million chips, OpenAI and Oracle cooperate to expand the data center

Oracle and OpenAI reached an agreement to add an additional Stargate data center with an additional 4.5 GW of power demand in the United States. This will create new local employment opportunities, accelerate the re-industrialization of the United States, and promote the leading position of the United States in the AI field.

This additional cooperation with Oracle, along with the Stargate I site in Abilene, Texas, has enabled OpenAI to have a total scale of more than 5 GW of AI data centers developed by OpenAI in the United States and operate more than 2 million chips. These progress greatly promotes OpenAI's commitment to Stargate Program in January this year.

OpenAI estimates that the construction, development and operation of 4.5 GW of data centers will be added, and more than 100,000 work opportunities will be created in construction and operation projects, including full-time work, short-term construction projects required for the Stargate data center, as well as in-service vacancies for production and local services.

OpenAI has not yet announced the specific locations of the newly developed data center with Oracle, and has included Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin and Yoming as the consideration options.

At the same time, the construction work of Stargate I station in Ablin continued, and some facilities were put into operation. Oracle began delivering its first batch of NVIDIA GB200 racks last month. OpenAI has also recently started early training and loads for AI reasoning, and used these resources to promote the next stage of OpenAI research. Stargate I was creating thousands of job vacancies, and with the expansion of operations, it is expected that more professional electricians, equipment operators and technical personnel will be joined.

Stargate is the overall AI-based facility platform of OpenAI. It is established in cooperation with Oracle, Silver Group and CoreWeave and other partners, and is combined with the international infrastructure investment in "OpenAI for Countries" in the United States. Microsoft continues to provide cloud services for OpenAI, which also includes the basic facilities that utilize Stargate.

While OpenAI was working with Oracle, its partnership with the Silver Group continued to advance. OpenAI notes that both parties accelerate site assessment and reconstruct the design of data centers when driving advanced AI.
