The Daily Mail reported that Manchester United club recently caused controversy over relocation of long-term season ticket holders from the back of the bench. This move is to build a new VIP reception area to increase revenue.
But the sales of new VIP seats seem to be less than the club's expectations. The package price in the best viewing area of the Bobby Charlton stands has dropped by £200 in this week's match against Chelsea. The package includes off-site reception at Manchester's high-end restaurants, with a price of £599, which is on par with the next Class A match against Newcastle in December.
Sources revealed that the average price of the reception package sold in this Chelsea battle is 500 pounds, and some seats have even dropped to a low price of 399 pounds. Manchester United said the price is only applicable to the last remaining sporadic seats.
This summer, Manchester United defended its controversial decision on the grounds that Chelsea, Barcelona and other clubs have set up reception areas behind the bench.
