Qualcomm announced today (7th) that it has reached an agreement to acquire Arduino, the world's leading open source hardware and software company. This transaction will accelerate Qualcomm's technology strategy of empowering developers, making it easier for developers to innovate through the use of edge technologies and product portfolios.
Qualcomm said that this acquisition builds on Qualcomm’s recent integration of Edge Impulse and Foundries.io and further demonstrates Qualcomm’s commitment to empowering developers from all walks of life with more development capabilities. Completion of the current transaction is still subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
Qualcomm pointed out that by combining Qualcomm’s leading processing, graphics, computer vision and AI technologies with Arduino’s simplicity, approachability and community spirit, it is expected to significantly improve the productivity of developers in various industries. Arduino will retain its open philosophy and community spirit, while opening a complete development platform Arduino UNO Q will be the first step in this new platform.

At the same time, Arduino also released the new UNO Q, which is the first Dual-Brain development board equipped with Qualcomm Dragonwing QRB2210 chip. It combines high-performance Linux computing with real-time microcontroller control to realize the vision of "instantaneous AI" for smart homes, industrial automation and other fields.
Qualcomm pointed out that Arduino will retain its independent brand, tools and mission, and continue to support various microcontrollers and microprocessors from multiple semiconductor suppliers. After joining the Qualcomm family, Arduino has a developer community of more than 33 million people and will now be able to use Qualcomm's advanced computing power, graphics processing, computer vision and AI technology to create a full-end platform for modern developers.
